Indiana High School Graduation Rate

According to recent figures published by the U.S. Department of Education, Indiana's high school graduation rate fell 1.7% between 1994 and 2004. Indiana's unadjusted graduation rate was reported as 69.5%, compared to a national average of 68.8% during the same period.  These rates vary quite considerably from public school graduation rates reported by the Indiana Department of Education during the same period, an average calculated closer to 88%. These differences are due to variations in calculation methodologies. The Indiana Department of Education began using a new formula to calculate the graduation rate in 2005-2006 which should better align the federal and state estimates.
